Note: This is only a story, not a real army. The "real" number of soldiers in battles is 10 times huge-settingin all my stories, but in this it's 20 times, on French side. Read also my other stories.
This reads on French and Sicilian armies
King Francis I was now in a powerful position. He had the Northern Italy, Germany, Denmark, and of course, the France. His loyal ally, England, had England, Ireland, Wales, and the Iberian peninsula. Now, they had only one enemy: the Kingdom of Sicily. It held the Southern Italy and Sicily. When the italian rebelion was crushed at Venice, it was only a question of time, when do the french attack into Sicily, especially, when the pope, who controlled central Italy, gave Francis the title "protector of the holy see", whitch mean't, that he controlled the pope's lands, and his army. The french army started soon it's attack, and marched to the Southern Italy, while the english attacked to the Sicily with their navies. Maximillian, the king of Sicily, moved to counter the French attack, with his army, witch was much smaller. He moved to a citadel, with large food and drink supplies, and the citadel had 2 wells per wall. The french army sieged the citadel, and after a while the cannon-bombarding destroyed the first wall. Voulgiers attacked to the gap, struck down the militia, and quickly conquered the first ring. But the sicilian artillery made much losses to them. Soon, they broke the second wall, but the resistance was harder, goodly armoured swordsmen managed to defend the wall a long time, but they were finally forced to retreat into the innest circle. But french forces managed to got trought the gates, and attacked. But that attack was ill-organised, and the Sicilians pulled the french back. Cannonballs ran out from the french army, and they were forced to wait until they got more, because it would still be shorter time than build siege-machines. In that time, the sicilians prepared for the battle. In next day, french army got more ammunition, and it broke the wall. There was a chaotic battle, but teh icilians eventually gained the upper ground. In the battle, King Francis met King Maximillian. Francis offered Maximillian that if he woulg surrender, he would became the duke of Southern Italy. Enraged, Maximillian pulled his sword, and attacked. There was a duel between the kings, but Maximillian was an experienced swordsman and wounded Francis badly. Francis was saved only because his scot archer shot Maximillian with a poisoned arrow, and Francis managed to escape. Because their king was wounded, the morale of french troops suffered, and they retreated. Maximillian did not show his wounds until battle had ended. He had best doctors, because he knew, that so-called witches were usually only those, who knew about real medicine, and were killed because of it's oddness. But still, he was wounded deeply, and doctors couldn't remove the arrow. In next morning, Maximillian died, but Francis recovered. Due to loss of their king and knowledge, that French reinforcements were coming, made them surrender. The whole Southern Italy surendered to french, but sicilians did not surrender to english, witch led to fierce battles...
