An Abbey is the first of the large Christian places of worship, and is considered by many Europeans to be the building that signals that a town has grown into a city proper. Be aware that while its size is a boon in a thriving settlement, an abbey is simply too large a structure to keep within the confines of castle courtyards, should the ruling lord wish to convert his settlement.
